Sweet Father’s Day Celebrations

Sweet Father’s Day Celebrations

The heart of a father is the masterpiece of nature.
Antoine François Prévost d’Exiles

Dads are something special! They are quirky, strong and full of love. Very few people can help you find your feet the way a dad can. They are there to support you (even through your worst ideas), have fun with you, get in trouble with you and help you out of trouble. But how do you say thanks to such a special person?

Here, at My Chocolate Box, we never let a chocolate opportunity slip through our fingers, so we’ve come up with a couple of sweet Father’s Day celebration ideas to say thanks to such a special man.

Chocolate Card

You’ll need a big cardboard, pens, glue or sticky tape, and chocolates. Once you have everything you need, get creative and write a beautiful card using the different chocolates as words.

For example:

Dear Dad,
Nougat is as awesome as you. Almond full of love for you.
Thanks for being such a Sweetie Pie, even though you have a dark flair.
Love,
Your sweet.

Chocolate Truffles

Make divine chocolate truffles. It’s easy too; you just need about 230g dark chocolate, half a cup of cream, 1 teaspoon of freshly grated orange zest, and, to add a little kick, 2 tots of brandy. Bring the cream to a boil in a saucepan and pour over the chocolate, orange zest and brandy. Let the mixture sit for about 4 minutes, then stir it until smooth and place it in the fridge to set. When it’s set, scoop the truffles out (we used a teaspoon) and place them back in the fridge for about 20 minutes.

Now, you should roll each truffle between your hands to create the round shape, cover them in a topping of your choice – cacao, chopped nuts, sugar, etc. – and place them in an airtight container in the fridge.

If this seems like a lot of work or you don’t have time to make your own truffles, invest in a My Chocolate Box and enjoy gourmet chocolates delivered straight to your door.

Chocolate Time

Spend sweet time with your dad while making something delicious together. Now, if we’re talking chocolate, sweet is the first thing that comes to mind, but why not try something savoury such as beautifully grilled steaks and a chocolate sauce?

What you’ll need for the sauce:

  • Salt and pepper
  • 50g butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • 1 small finely chopped onion
  • 1 tsp fine red chilli (you can add more to taste)
  • 250ml cream
  • 175g chopped dark chocolate

Fry the butter, oil, garlic, onions and chillies together, and season to taste.
Once the onions are soft and translucent, add the cream and chocolate.
Warm over gentle heat until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
Cook the steaks to perfection.

Serve steaks with chosen sides and chocolate sauce.

Hot Chocolate

Buy or rent your dad’s favourite film, grab a blanket and cookies, and make a steamy mug of hot chocolate for you two. If you want to make real hot chocolate, simply melt chocolate in boiling milk. Remember to top the mugs off with marshmallows! If, however, you’d like to make an extra special cup, have a look at our hot chocolate recipes. Now, sit back and enjoy a movie with your dad.
